Chelsea Transfer Ban Lifted After CAS Appeal

English Premier League club, Chelsea can now sign players, as Court of Arbitration lifted their transfer ban slammed on them earlier last season. This came after they won their Appeal against the two transfer market ban, even though they have served one already.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport in their judgment halved the two-transfer ban handed down earlier this year. The Blues served the first stage of that ban in the summer of 2019. It also reduced the fine for the London club from 600,000 to 300,000 Swiss francs (£230,000).

Chelsea were given a two transfer window ban after the London club were found guilty of breaching article 19 of its regulations on the status and transfer of players (RSTP), which concerns the protection of minors

They were also found to have breached Article 18, concerning third-party influence.

Cas found that the Blues “did violate” rules “related to the international transfer of minors” and “to the first registration of minors” but “for a significantly smaller number of players” amounting to “about a third of the violations found by Fifa”.

The Cas verdict added: “In addition, the violations of other RSTP (Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players) rules were found to be less serious than those attributed to Chelsea by Fifa.”

While this is a piece of good news for the Chelsea board and manager Frank Lampard, we must say that the team despite the ban have done well as they have managed the situation that all other teams are now looking to emulate, by promoting academy products into the senior teams.

The likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori all academy products, have been the engine room of this current Chelsea team, and disrupting the already established system by signing new and established players, could defeat everything they have started with this season…but a striker and another defender would do.
