Afrobeats star, David Adeleke known better as Davido, is being dragged by Nigerians after calling on the United States President Donald Trump to pay attention to the political situation in Osun State ahead of the upcoming election where his uncle who is the present Governor os the state is seeking a reelection.
In a statement posted on social media on Tuesday 8th August 2026, Davido appealed directly to Trump and urged the United States and the international community to monitor developments surrounding the election, citing concerns over possible tension, violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process.
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election,” Davido wrote.
The singer said the people of Osun State should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and peacefully, without fear or intimidation.
His statement has generated debate, with critics questioning the decision to seek the intervention or attention of a foreign political leader over an electoral matter in Nigeria. Some have argued that Davido is only doing this, because it directly affects his family.
