The Gombe Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 arraigned a Bureau de Change Operator whose name was given as Hassan Umar Mukhtar before Justice A.M. Anka of the Federal High Court, Yola, Adamawa State, on a one-count charge bordering on Obtaining Money under False Pretence.

According to the statement made available by the EFCC, Mr Mukhtar, a Bureau de Change operator, was alleged to have sometimes in August, 2016, obtained Thirty Two million, Five hundred and Seventy Two Thousand Naira (N32,572,000.00), through the Zenith bank account No. 2170011190 belonging to one Mahmud Farouk Umar from Mr. Onyike John Kali under the Pretence of exchanging CFA50,000,000.00 Cameroonian Franks Currency to its equivalent in Nigerian Currency, which he never did, instead he diverted the money for his personal use.

The prosecution counsel, A.M. Labaran prayed the court for a trial date and for the suspect Bureau de change operator to be remanded in prison custody.

The defense counsel, Anas Na’ andeti applied for bail for his client which was granted by the court with the sum of One Million Naira and one surety in like sum.

The Judge further ruled that the surety who must be resident within the Jurisdiction must have landed property and must also be living with his family within the Jurisdiction. The surety must be above 45 years, must submit his verifiable phone numbers and also submit his passport photograph.
The matter was adjourned till December 5, 2018, for trial.
