Senator Alhasan has formerly announced a few hours ago, her defection from the ruling party of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to United Democratic Party (UDP).
This is coming after Senator Alhasan who is a Minister and popularly known as “mama Taraba” alongside Minister of Communication from Oyo State Shittu were dropped by the APC leadership from the screening exercise of the APC. They were alleged to be having one issue or the other, and so the decision not to screen them as Governorship aspirants of both Oyo and Taraba State under the party.
Senator Alhasan was the APC Governorship aspirant in the 2015 Governorship election in Taraba State, in an election that was keenly contested between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC and she nearly won.
Although Senator Alhasan did not win the election, the final outcome of that election shows she is a force to be reckoned with in Taraba State and in Nigeria politics.
The controversial Minister was once allged to have publicly declared her loyalty to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar while still serving as a Minister under President Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku being in the opposition, she got alot of stick for her statement then.
Senator Alhasan in making her declaration a few hours ago, took to her social media to say:
“I have officially JOINED my next POLITICAL PARTY with 7 state Assembly Members, all APC executives from 169 wards of Taraba State. All 16 local Government exco’s of APC All states executives of APC, we are now in UDP”
From her declaration and claims she seems to have crumbled the structure of APC in Taraba State. Also, Minister of communication Shittu is also likely to dump the party to achieve his ambition of becoming a Governor of Oyo State, after he was accused of not serving the one year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for Nigerian graduate.
