FIFAWWC: My Dad Not Happy With My Choice Of Celebration - Asisat Oshoala Says

Super Falcons of Nigeria and Barcelona forward, Asisat Oshoala has revealed that her father did not like her choice of celebration, after scoring the goal that qualified Nigeria to the last sixteen of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup (FIFAWWC) in Australia on Thursday.

Asisat Oshoala who made history with her goal for Nigeria against the host Australia by being the first African female footballer to have scored in three consecutive FIFAWWC, after netting the third goal in their second group game on Thursday when the Super Falcons defeated the Aussies by 2-3, took to her official social media handle to reveal to the world what the reaction of her father was, after she took off her jersey to celebrate her goal, which happens to be her first of the tournament.

My dad is definitely not happy with my choice of celebration but then again, Life is a collection of MOMENTS,” she captioned the photos of her celebration.

A few minutes after her post, Nigerians trooped to her social media comment section to congratulate her, and also assure her that they will plead for forgiveness from her father on her behalf.

The Barcelona Femeni forward came on as a substitute to replace one of the goalscorers, Uchenna Kanu, in the 64th minute.

The 29-year-old capitalized on a defensive slip to give Nigeria a two-goal advantage in the 72nd minute. Oshoala slotted the ball into an empty net after Australia’s defender Kennedy headed the ball past the goalkeeper, who was out of her line.

The forward removed her jersey and raced to the sideline to celebrate her goal with her teammates, receiving a yellow card in the process.

And aside from the reaction of her father, a few sections of Nigerians, reacted to her celebration, given her Muslim background. But in all, the majority of Nigerians Christians and Muslims alike, both within and outside Nigeria, celebrated her and her teammates for their achievements so far in the tournament.
The celebration was ‘iconic’.
