Two suspected arms smugglers have been arrested by men of the Zamfara State Police Command, authorities of the command said in a statement.
According to the statement by the Zamfara state Police Command in a released post on Tuesday 10th January 2023, stated that its officers have succeeded in arresting two people who were smuggling weapons into the state, including a woman.
The two suspected arms smugglers were identified as Emmanuel Emmanuel and a woman named Nana Ibrahim who were arrested on the road from Gusau to Wanke to Dansadau – they were arrested with about 325 rounds of ammunition, and one AK47 magazine.
The statement said that the two arms smugglers were arrested after receiving intelligence on the people who were suspected of taking the weapons from Benue state to a bandit camp in Zamfara state.
The command said that during their prosecution, the men confessed that they have been conducting this illegal business for a long time between them and robbers in Zamfara and other neighboring states.
The state police commissioner, Kolo Yusuf, emphasized the desire of the force to protect lives and property of the community, and called on the public to cooperate with the security agencies to ensure the determination of the force.
At the end of last week, the state police force managed to seize a large number of weapons in the state from the arms smugglers who the force said had taken the weapons from Taraba state to take them to the camp of the bandits.
