The Gombe State Police Command in collaboration with Local vigilante/hunters groups in stemming the tide of heinous crimes and criminalities in the State, have arrested two suspected kidnappers, one of which is a kidnap kingpin Sani Shehu, the state Police command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar revealed.
According to the statement released on Monday 22nd August 2022, by ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, the Gombe Police Command Public Relations Officer, stated that on the 19/08/2022 at about 1500hrs based on credible information received by the Divisional Police Officer of Pindiga Division that some suspected kidnappers were planning to strike a target around Pindiga, Akko LGA.
ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar stated that the Police patrol team in collaboration with Vigilante and Hunters group intercepted two suspected kidnappers at Tudun Kwaya village of Billiri LGA one Sani Shehu ‘m’ aged 25yrs and Mohammed Sani Adamu aged 23yrs both ‘m’ from Dukku LGA of Gombe State, enroute their secret rendezvous at the successful arrest of the suYankari forest.
“On interrogation, the two suspected kidnappers confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate terrorising Pindiga, Akko LGA. During preliminary investigation, the kidnap kingpin Sani Shehu led the operatives to where they hid their weapons, one AK-47 rifle, two magazines loaded with eighteen (18) rounds of live ammunition, One fabricated sterling rifle, a locally made revolver pistol with a pair of Army camouflage uniform were recovered from the forest,” the Police PRO stated.
The Gombe State Police PRO also added that the kidnap kingpin Sani Shehu who attempted to escape was hit by a bullet and was rushed to General Hospital Kashere where he was certified dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment. The corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police CP Ishola Babatunde Babaita, Psc, FDMSS, directed that the case be transferred to State CID Gombe for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The CP further enjoins all peace-loving citizens and residents alike in the state to continue to partner and co-operate with the Police by providing useful information on any suspicious individuals or persons in their domain.
The CP also assures the citizens that all information given shall be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
