Edo State Governor, Governor Godwin Obaseki has resigned his membership of All Progressives Congress (APC) after meeting with the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.
Obaseki disclosed this to the Media on Tuesday 16th June 2020, on his way out of the Presidential Villa.
He also debunked allegations that his credentials were not original.
Taking to his official social media account, Governor Godwin Obaseki, said:
“I have officially resigned my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after meeting with the Chief of Staff to MBuhari,” he said.
Governor Godwin continued:
“We shall continue the battle to protect the interest of Edo people and sustain good governance in the state,” he added.
The APC Screening Committee for Edo State Governorship election had on Friday 12th June 2020, declared Governor Godwin Obaseki unqualified to contest in the election due to some alleged discrepancies in his educational certificates and NYSC.
Others who were reported to have been disqualified by the APC screening committee are Hon. Matthew Iduoroyekemwen and Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi.
The Screening committee however cleared Pastor Osagie Ize- Iyamu, Dr. Pius Odubu and Hon. Osaro Obazee.
