Gov. Obaseki Suspends Schools’ Resumption, Reviews Curfew

Governor Godwin Obaseki has suspended schools’ resumption in Edo state, a few days after the Federal Government through the Ministry of Education announced that the January 18th 2021 school’s resumption date still stands.

According to the statement made available on Thursday 14th January 2021, by Mr Goong, who is the Director, Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, while confirming the news, stated that the decision not to alter the 18th January date, was taken after wide consultation with State Governors.

Obaseki is not taking any chances, as aside from the suspension of schools’ resumption in the state, the Governor also announced that his administration has reviewed the subsisting curfew to 10:pm to 5:am daily. 

Governor Obaseki in a statement released on his official Twitter handle on Friday 15th January 2021, said: 

“We have suspended schools’ resumption & reviewed the subsisting curfew to 10pm – 5am daily, to halt the spread of #COVID19. New guidelines have been issued for markets, the hospitality industry, night clubs, religious and social gatherings, the transport sector, etc.,” the Governor had tweeted.

The statement by the Governor also is coming after the state recorded 46 new cases of the coronavirus, with the total figure recorded nationwide as reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) put at 1479 new cases, with 23 deaths.
