NAPTIP Trains Lagos Task Force On Human Trafficking

The National Agency for The Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP), continued the fulfillment of its mandates with the capacity building of members of the Lagos State Task Force on Human Trafficking.

The Honorable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Hon Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN who is also the Chairman of the Task Force was duly represented by the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Titilayo Shitta-Bey.

In her welcome remarks, the SG commended NAPTIP for the initiative program and also its unending efforts to put an end to Human Trafficking and SGBV in the State and Nigeria at large.

She welcomed the idea of setting up a State Task Force and promised that the State Government will work closely with NAPTIP to ensure a human trafficking free Lagos.

The Director-General in her response, thanked the Lagos State Governor for the warm reception and commended him for his efforts in having a crime free Lagos. While welcoming the soon to be inaugurated Task Force on Human Trafficking, the Director General stressed that the setting up of the Task Force was premised on the need to enhance State and non- State multi sectoral responses towards combating Human Trafficking in Nigeria.

Furthermore, the Director-General stressed that The task force is expected to develop a comprehensive frame work for awareness creation, rescue , rehabilitation and empowerment of victims of trafficking as well as providing requisite psychosocial, legal and other interventions for trafficked victims in Nigeria.

She also thanked the International Organization for Migration IOM for sponsoring this project while being a great support to the Agency. She ended by thanking once again the Executive Governor of the State, Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu for supporting this brainchild and agreeing to inaugurate the Task Force himself.

The Lagos State Task Force on Human Trafficking will be officially inaugurated on Tuesday 8th September, 2020 by His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu.
