The Minister of State for Education Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba announced the measures at the daily briefing by the PTF in Abuja.

Mr. Nwajiuba said some of the measures include fumigation of the school environment, decongestion and making arrangements for physical distancing in classroom settings.

The Minister of State said the ministry would also explore the option of dividing teaching periods to morning and afternoon sessions.

He also stressed the need for Schools to ensure strict adherence to health advisories against the Coronavirus which include washing of hands and the use of face masks by the students or pupils.

Mr. Nwajiuba who noted that the Coronavirus had badly affected school activities said the ministry was however not in a hurry to re-open schools due to health concerns.

The minister also debunked rumours on the purported re-opening of schools on the 8th of next month.

Mr. Nwajiuba, therefore, advised schools to use the opportunity of the school closure to engage in training and re-training of teachers through various virtual platforms to maintain the standard of education in the country.
