NCDC Confirms 196 New Cases Of COVID-19 As Total Hit 1728

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has yet again reported 196 new cases of the novel coronavirus, as total confirmed cases in Nigeria so far now stands at 1728.

The NCDC in their daily update on situation reports on their official Twitter handle on Wednesday 29th April 2020, reported that 196 new cases were confirmed, and these new cases are distributed as follows across some states of the federation:

87-Lagos
24-Kano
18-Gombe
17-Kaduna
16-FCT
10-Katsina
8-Sokoto
7-Edo
6-Borno
1-Yobe
1-Ebonyi
1-Adamawa

This was as at 11:55pm 29th April 2020.

From the update given by NCDC, Lagos state still lead in total confirmed cases, while the likes of FCT and Kano follows according.

The NCDC also reported that as at Wednesday, the total confirmed cases in Nigeria is now 1728 and total number of discharged patients is 307 while total deaths recorded so far stand at 51.

While Lagosians are eagerly waiting on May 4th 2020 when the lockdown imposed on the state, FCT and Ogun state is to be lifted, there are still fears that such a decision could trigger a massive outbreak given how Lagos is congested with over 20million people and how desparate people are to return to their norma lives.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State government concerned by the fears raised by some Lagosians on the lifting of the lockdown and its likely negative consequences on the fight against tje virus, said it will not be business as usual, saying:

“Even as we begin #EasingTheLockdown, it will not be business as usual so we are unveiling a whistle blowing channel to report organisations that flout the new directives. Whistleblowers will be guaranteed full protection and their identities would be kept strictly confidential.

We are also inaugurating a committee with representatives from NURTW, RTEAN, Private Transport Operators, Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, Manufacturing Association of Nigeria(MAN) and all the Lagos state ministries responsible.

This committee will be charged with the responsibility of communicating, to their members, the framework on the controlled easing of the lockdown so that we can all fully understand what is expected from us,” he said.
