The newly constituted Kano state lockdown mobile courts established to enforce compliance during the state’s stay at home order have revealed that 135 violators have been so far been convicted as of Wednesday 29th April.
This was disclosed by the Kano State Judiciary, Public Relations Officer, Baba Jibo during a media chat with Solacebase on Wednesday.
He said the mobile courts were established to try defaulters during the lockdown period and any other issues that might arise in consequence.
Solacebase reports that the 11 mobile courts were inaugurated on Monday, April 27 by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Nura Sagir-Umar.
According to him, among the prosecuted violators are some truck drivers who were found guilty in trying to smuggle some Almajiris from Abia and Gombe states respectively. “The mobile court has prosecuted 135 violators and among them are some commercial truck drivers who were apprehended trying to smuggle some Almajiris from Abia and Gombe states into Kano. The court has ordered for clinical checkups on the Almajiri before further actions can be taken on them,” said Baba Jibo.
He added that, the trucks involved are in court custody and that health authorities are being authorized to screened the apprehended Almajiri’s adding that some of the violators have been sentenced to community service while some have been fined as appropriate and in accordance with the new laws.
Baba Jibo further stated that those on the exemption list that are on the list of the essential services face no difficulties as they were being allowed to carry out their duties as designed.
