The Inspector-General of Police Muhammed Adamu has ordered the immediate disbandment of all zonal intervention squad across the country.
The order of IGP Adamu on the disbandment of Zonal intervention squad was made by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Southwest, Mr Peter Ogunyanwo on Tuesday 25th February 2020 in Ogun State.
The DIG who accompanied the Governor of Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun during a condolence visit to the parents of Assistant Captain of Remo Stars Football Club, late Kazeem Tiamiyu, gave the notification.
Mr Peter Ogunyanwo, explained that all the officers attached to the units ( zonal intervention squad ) would now be under the supervision of state commands.
The Inspector-General of police who admitted that the police officer involved in the unfortunate death of the footballer performed illegal duty and that they would face the wrath of the law accordingly, appealed to the parents of the deceased to provide necessary information for them to get justice for the death of their son.
Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun also assured the parents of the deceased that no stone would be left unturned to investigate the unfortunate death of their son, announced that additional divisional police office would be built in Sagamu to further strengthen security architecture in the town.
The mother of the deceased Mrs Selimot Tiamiyu who was highly emotional urged the state Governor and Police authorities to ensure that all the culprits were brought to book.
