The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose has asked President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari to declare the late Chief MKO Abiola as the winner of the June 12, 1993, Presidential election in Nigeria.
The Governor who was reacting to the declaration made by the President making change to the date of ‘Democracy day’ celebration in Nigeria, from May 29th to June 12, asked the President in his kind gesture, to go the extra mile having done that of democracy, to declare the late Social Democratic Party Candidate in the June 1993 elections as the rightful winner of the annulled election.
Governor Fayose who took to his social media page to brag about how he has made June 12 as a public holiday in Ekiti State as a Governor, while commending the President, also brought the attention of the President to the issue of Federal University Oye Ekiti.
He said since President Muhammadu Buhari renamed the University in 2017 after late General Adeyinka Adebayo nothing has been done after the President’s pronouncement. He tweeted saying:
President Buhari should go the extra mile and declare late MKO Abiola as winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. That is the only “right and legitimate step to take”.
I hope that our President will also remember that he pronounced the renaming of Federal University, Oye Ekiti after late General Adeyinka Adebayo since last year? Even after writing letters reminding the President, nothing has been done.
