Prime Minister Boris Johnson has expressed his disapproval to the ruling of the Supreme Court on Tuesday faulting his Parliament Prorogation where he was quoted to have said he ‘strongly disagrees’ with the Apex Court ruling.

Boris Johnson according to the report by Metro News, claimed that the Parliament Prorogation for five-weeks was to allow the Government to set out a new legislative agenda in a Queen’s Speech when MPs return to Parliament. But the Supreme Court was unanimous in finding his decision ‘was unlawful because it had the effect of frustrating or preventing the ability of Parliament to carry out its constitutional functions without reasonable justification’.

The Supreme Court ruled that he broke the law by proroguing Parliament and that his advice to the Queen was ‘unlawful, void and of no effect’.

The report also added that Lady Hale reacting to the Court ruling said Parliament Prorogation was never legally suspended and is technically still sitting. MPs have been travelling back to resume their seats in the House of Commons.

Johnson, currently in New York for a UN summit, told Sky News: ‘I strongly disagree with this decision of the Supreme Court. I have the utmost respect for our judiciary, I don’t think this was the right decision I think that the prorogation has been used for centuries without this kind of challenge.’

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called for the Prime Minister to ‘consider his position’ in the wake of the historic ruling. Addressing the party conference in Brighton, he said: ‘It shows that the Prime Minister has acted wrongly in shutting down Parliament. ‘It demonstrates contempt for democracy and an abuse of power by him.’

He added: ‘I invite Boris Johnson in the historic words to consider his position.’ Lib Dems leader Jo Swinson echoed the calls for Johnson to step down, branding him ‘not fit to be Prime Minister’. Addressing reporters on his way to New York yesterday, Johnson insisted he would not resign if the court ruled against him.
