The British House of Commons will on Wednesday 25th September 2019 resume its parliamentary duties, after Supreme Court ruling on Tuesday that voided Boris Johnson’s Prorogation of Parliament.

The British House of Commons reacting to the ruling of the Supreme Court which ruled in favour of the House, released a short statement where the House said they are considering the implications of the ruling, saying:

“The House service’s primary responsibility is to ensure the smooth running of parliamentary business. We are considering the implications of the Supreme Court’s judgment for Parliament and will provide further information as soon as we can”.

The House of Commons a few hours after they said they were considering the implications of the judgement, released yet another statement announcing the intention of the House to resume tomorrow. The House said:

Following the Supreme Court’s judgment, the 2017-19 parliamentary session will resume on Wednesday 25 September. The House of Commons will sit at 11.30 am. There will be no #PMQs. Ministerial statements and applications for urgent questions and emergency debates will be allowed.

There will be no #PMQs tomorrow as at least two days notice of questions is required” the House stated.

The move by the British House to reconvene on Wednesday which is three weeks early will give the House especially Boris Johnson’s opponents more time to challenge, amend, or block his Brexit plans or even bring down his government.

The court had ruled that: “The decision to advise Her Majesty to prorogue parliament was unlawful because it had the effect of frustrating or preventing the ability of parliament to carry out its constitutional functions without reasonable justification,” Supreme Court President Brenda Hale said.

The court said Johnson had not given any reason, “let alone a good reason” for suspending the legislature for five weeks.
“The prime minister’s advice to Her Majesty was unlawful, void and of no effect,” said Hale
