Senator Omo-Agege emerges as the Deputy Senate President

Senator Omo-Agege has emerged as the new Deputy Senate President, overcoming the late minute scare from former and longtime Senate Deputy President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu who threw his hat to the ring last minute for the race, to emerge as the new Deputy to the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan.

The emergence of Senator Omo-Agege who is a Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, of Delta State, completes the strategy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and overcome the threats from the opposition party of the Peoples Democratic Pary (PDP) after the embarrassment of 2015.

Senator Omo-Agege won with 68 out of 107 votes to defeat Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP to become the Deputy Senate President. This clearly was a vote of ‘thank you’ from the Senators to Senator Omo-Agege for allegedly standing up to some alleged impunity from the last Senate.

Looking at the elections from the Senate President to that of the Deputy Senate President, and although some people might want to argue this, I feel the Senators were unanimous in the decisions, as to those they wanted to lead the Red Chamber.

Clearly, they both the PDP and APC Senators wanted to change, so they got rid of the old order, and dumping Senator Ike Ekeremadu despite Senator Omo-Agege being alleged to be behind the Mace theft, tells they wanted to send a message.
