The Nigerian Police has recovered the stolen Senate’s Mace from under a Flyover bridge in Abuja. The Police which said it received information from motorists, passerby as to the whereabouts of the Mace after what looked like it was abandoned by the thugs as they were making their escaped, confirmed it was the Mace hijacked from the Senate. The news is coming after the Senate Leadership gave Security operatives to retrieve the stolen Mace within 24hours, and according to report, the Mace was recovered yesterday.
In a report by News Agency of Nigeria, the police reporting the incident and their findings said:
The police teams engaged in massive raids of identified criminal spots/flashpoints, stop and search operations, visibility and confidence building patrols, intelligence gathering which forced the suspected miscreants to abandon the mace at a point under the flyover before the City Gate, where a patriotic passer-by saw it and alerted the Police.”
The Police thanked members of the public, most especially motorists within Abuja Metropolis for their support, cooperation and timely information during the stop and search operations for the recovery of the mace, and promised to provide further information as investigation still continues.
Also, Senator Ovie Omo Agege has since been released from police custody after series of questioning and will assist the police in their investigation.
