Governor Ihedioha denies ordering the demolition of Akachi statue

Governor Ihedioha denies media reports that he ordered the demolition of the Akachi statue that was erected by former Governor Rochas Okorocha. The video showing the demolition of the giant statue has gone viral earlier on Thursday, as Nigerians react to the move allegedly by the new Government in Imo State.

The Governor in a statement released a few hours ago by his Special Adviser on media, Steve Osuji, said, he has no hand in the demolition, as his Government which is yet to be allocated an office, and barely 24hours of swearing in, have other important issues to attend to than worry itself about a statue.

Governor Ihedioha denying the demolition which allegedly took place on Thursday had this to say about demolition exercise:

“Imo State government has no hand in the demolition of Akachi statue

Contrary to reports emanating from Owerri, the Government of Imo State has no hand in the pulling down of the gargantuan Akachi statue near Aba Road, Owerri.

Does it stand to reason that a government that is barely 24 hours old, with no handover notes whatsoever and without an office to work from yet would concern itself with an ordinary statue?

Let it be known that the new government in Imo State has its eyes set on nobler goals which include fast-tracking the rebuilding of Imo State.”
