The Anambra State Police Command have arrested and paraded 14 more suspects for illegal revenue collection in the state.

The Police Command in a statement released on Wednesday 27th January 2021, stated that in furtherance to it’s determination towards eradicating illegal revenue collections, harassment and extortion on innocent citizens on the road in the name of IGR collection, police patrol teams attached to the Area Command Onitsha and Okpoko Division had between 25/1//2021 and to date, while on patrol along, upper iweka, Owerri road and head bridge all in Onitsha arrested fourteen (14) more illegal revenue collectors under the false pretence of being government revenue agents in the State.

Accroding to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Haruna Mohammed, the 14 arrested illegal revenue collectors, has brought the number of suspects arrested for illegal revenue collections so far in the state, to forty-three (43) within one week and the operation is still ongoing.

“It would be recalled that the command has paraded 13 suspects on 20/1/2021.

This operation was in compliance with Anambra State Government directives on the 7th December 2020, “banning all forms of illegal revenue collections by persons claiming to be State revenue agents or officials. Suspects would be brought to book as soon as investigations are concluded.

Consequently, the Command will continue to pursue the hoodlums until they refrain from criminal activities or relocate from the State,” CSP Haruna Mohammed stated.
