Felicity Huffman tears up in court as she pleaded guilty to paying the sum of $15,000 to a fake charity that helped her daughter, Sofia Grace Macy fake her SAT score for college. The Desperate Housewives star, who had indicated that she was going to admit her wrong and face the consequences, broke down in tears as she told the judge she was guilty of the crime she was charged with.
Felicity who faces four months behind bars and a $20,000 fine, had said this about her pleading guilty.
“I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions.”
“I am ashamed of the pain I have caused my daughter, my family, my friends, my colleagues and the educational community,”
“I want to apologize to them and, especially, I want to apologize to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices to support their children and do so honestly.” she had said.
According to NBC News, Felicity Huffman paid the money to a fund controlled by William Rick Singer, who ran a lucrative business getting the children of his clients into prestigious universities.
He took thousands of dollars from well-heeled clients to either boost standardized test scores of their teenage children or pass them off as elite athletes, deserving of special lower admissions standards.
Unlike Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin and her husband have entered pleas of not guilty, and plan to fight the charges from federal prosecutors.
