Independence day: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released a statement asking Nigerians not to listen to the Independence day message of President Buhari, saying the President’s state address on October 1st 2018, will be full of fake achievement indices and promises.

The statement released by the spokesperson of the PDP Mr. Kola Ologbondiya accused APC and President Buhari as unfit to preside over the 58th Independence day celebration, pointing to different alleged corruption cases, and the siege at the National Assembly, highlighting some of the major political events in 2018 and since 2015.
The statement reads:

President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has no rectitude to preside over the nation’s Independence day Anniversary as its insensitivity, impunity and oppressive proclivities are reminiscent of colonial rule.

Instead of celebrating this year’s independence day celebration, Nigerians are mourning under Muhammadu Buhari. This administration has, in the last 3 years, turned our nation into an impoverished colony where apparatus of state power has become instrument of oppression against the people.

Under the Muhammadu Buhari led APC regime, Nigeria’s constitution has been suspended technically. Governance has reverted to oppression. Our democratic institutions, particularly National Assembly and the Judiciary, have come under siege.

Today, the world is particularly alarmed by the documented cases of human rights violations, executive high-handedness, arbitrary and extra-judicial executions, violence and bloodletting, unlawful arrests and detentions, torture, reported disappearances, etc

Due to the incompetence of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration leading to its inability to design a clear-cut economic policy direction, our once robust economy has been plunged into recession, hunger, starvation and strange disease have so ravaged our nation that compatriots now consider slavery and suicide mission as options for survival.

The President Muhammadu Buhari administration have demarketered our nation, industries are collapsing in their numbers, local and foreign direct investments have shrunked with over 30million job losses in three years.

Our Naira has fallen from N165/1dollar in 2015 to N360/1dollar in 2018. Cost of fuel has been hiked from 87naira per litre to N145. Prices of staple food and essential commodities have soared beyond their reach of Nigerians and there is no hope in sight under the APC

Instead of building on the gains bequeathed by the PDP and properly harnessing our economic resources for economic growth, President Muhammadu Buhari administration resorted to borrowing and returned our country to a debtor with over N22.4 trillion in debt (73.21billion ) debt burden.

The war against corruption is nothing but a witch-hunt opposition members and perceived opponents of the Buhari administration, while members of the Presidency cabal who have been indicted for fretting away over N10trillion Naira from our national coffers enjoy Presidential covers.

The PDP therefore holds that the Buhari-led administration lacks the rectitude to preside over our Independence anniversary. Moreover Nigerians are aware that it’s address will be full of fake achievements indices and fake promises..

If anything, this administration now bears the stamp deceit and incompetence and failures for which Nigerians have resolved to vote it out in the 2019 general elections.

The PDP however urges Nigerians not to dispair but to continue to support one another to remain steadfast and the platform of the repositioned PDP to return our nation to the path of good governance come 2019.
