Lagos State Government has taken a determined efforts at ensuring that Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is easily available for use in all homes statewide.

The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Lagos State, Mr. Olawale Oluwo disclosed this on Thursday, at a meeting with members of the Committee on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Alausa, said:

“The monitoring and inspection of land spaces in several parts of the State have commenced for the installation of gas plants and gas skids, extinguishers and exchange of gas cylinders at very affordable, convenient and safe rates for Lagosians.”

“The reform in the oil and gas sector entails inauguration of various committees that include the Downstream Business, Joint Lagos State Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR) Oil and Gas activities as well as the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Reforms whose sub-committees have commenced preliminary works for a smooth take off.

While speaking further on the management, testing and control of cylinders, the Commissioner said the State will be fully responsible, saying:

“The State Government will be in full control of cylinder testing to ward off cases of substandard products, pointing out that the Ministry is collaborating with other relevant Government Agencies including Safety Commission, LASEPA, Ibile foundation as well as Physical Planning and Urban Renewal.

“The type of quality cylinders on display at the just concluded World Gas Conference in the United State of America will be replicated by Lagos, starting with the assemblage of over two million of the products in the first phase of implementation.”

“Efforts are in top gear to source for cylinders and molecules, land spaces for installation of tank farms, gas skids, and fire extinguishers as well as financing that will take care of expenses to be borne by consumers”, He concluded.

This is definitely a good move, and we wait to see how the Government regulate all the existing plants springing up everywhere in Lagos State.
