Chelsea a few minutes ago, announced the arrival of Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic as their new player, after completing his signing from Real Madrid on a season-long loan.
The 24-year-old Croatian midfielder and Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup Semi-finalist, was part of the transfer deal that saw ex-Chelsea goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois leave for Real Madrid last night.
The player who had an outstanding performance with his country Croatia at the just concluded FIFA world cup, will be a big boost to the Chelsea midfield which already has the likes of Jorginho, Kante, Fabregas, Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Loftus-Cheek, and Ross Barkley.
Mateo Kovacic was part of the heroic Real Madrid team under Zinedine Zidane that won the UEFA Champions League three times in a row, and will be looking to help Chelsea and manager Maurizio Sarri replicate something of such in England and Europe.
Kovacic spent three years with Real Madrid after signing from Inter Milan in 2015. He has played in different positions as he is regarded as a versatile player.
At his unveiling, Kovacic said was happy to be joining Chelsea, saying:
“I am really happy and excited to be here at Chelsea. It is an amazing feeling. I will try to do my best for this club.” He said.
The coming of Kovacic who left Real Madrid due to lack of playing time, could face similar situation at Chelsea, depending on what and who manager Sarri decides to use as his top three midfielders.
