The man who was the lead vocals with famous American Rock band, The Cars, Ric Ocasek, has died after he was found unconscious in his New York apartment on Sunday evening.

Ric Ocasek according to law enforcement was found unconscious at his townhouse in Manhattan by his wife Paulina Porizkova who placed an emergency call afterwards, but unfortunately, the 75-year-old Ocasek was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not believe there was any foul play, saying that preliminary findings show that The Cars star died of natural causes.

The Cars had a string of albums at the turn of the ’70s to the ’80s that seemed to mix the emerging New Wave and post-punk movements with commercial rock ‘n’ roll better than anyone. It was no wonder leader Ric Ocasek went on to a later career as a producer of bands like Weezer — Ocasek’s tightly constructed songs and the band’s sparked sound laid the groundwork for what we’d come to call “alternative music” in the ’90s

Their self-titled first album in 1978, included songs like “My Best Friend’s Girl” and “Just What I Needed.”

The band originated in Boston in 1976, with singer Ric Ocasek, bassist Benjamin Orr, lead guitarist Elliot Easto, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson.

Their first album sold six million copies and appeared on the Billboard charts for 139 weeks. The Cars have sold over 20 million albums in the United States.
