Former Athletico Bilbao goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga has signed for English Premier League side, Chelsea for a transfer fee of £71million.
The 23-year-old Spaniard signed a seven-year deal, for a world record fee of £71million making it a first in world football and for a goalkeeper. He also becomes Chelsea’s club record signing after Alvaro Morata last season.
Chelsea who earlier confirmed that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is leaving for Real Madrid released a photo of Kepa’s unveiling at the club a few minutes ago as their new signing and world most expensive goalkeeper.
Kepa who started his footballing career with the youth side of the Athletico Bilbao in 2011, rose to become the number one choice goalkeeper two years ago for the senior team, and now he is going to be number one for one of England’s biggest Clubs, Chelsea.
Kepa’s £71million record transfer fee once again, breaks the all-time transfer fee for a goalkeeper, after Liverpool paid £66million for AS Roma goalkeeper, Alisson Becker.
This also means, out of the top five most expensive goalkeepers in the world, four of those are currently in the English Premier League
