The President of Zimbabwe Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa earlier today, escaped an alleged assassination attempt, as explosion rocked the political campaign rally where he was addressing the crowd, as several people are reported injured and taken to the hospital.
The explosion which as at the time of this report cannot be explained was said to have happened in the town of Bulawayo the second largest city in Zimbabwe, which according to report was said to have been peaceful before the explosion.
Zimbabwe for years has been known as a very peaceful country, despite its economic woes, if anything the country is one of the most peaceful countries in Africa. The removal of the longtime dictator and freedom fighter Mugabe who held power for decades before he reluctantly relinquished power after some pressure from the military, could also be a sign that the country is ready to move in a new direction.
But this latest development could also mean, there are still some aggrieved members of the old guard who still wants the status-quo, as that is the only sensible way to explain this deadly and senseless act.
