President Muhammadu Buhari is set to re-appointed Mr Godwin Emefiele as Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) governor for another second term of five years, as he forwards his name to the Senate.
A few hours ago at the floor of the red Chamber, the Senate President Bukola Saraki read the presidential communication seeking the confirmation of Emefiele for another term of five years as CBN Governor.
Godwin Emefiele was first appointed as the CBN Governor by the then President Goodluck Jonathan from his post then as the managing director of Zenith Bank in 2014.
Emefiele was confirmed by the then Senate, after the suspension of Sanusi Lamido as the then CBN governor.
Although there have been rumours going around before now, that President Buhari was not going to renew the appointment of the CBN Governor, but while speaking at the Association of Assets Custodians of Nigeria (AACN) conference in London on Thursday, the 57-year-old, Godwin Emefiele confirmed that he will be making a return as the head of the apex bank.
If confirmed by the Nigerian Senate, he will be the first CBN Governor since Nigeria returned to Democratic rule to have been re-appointed as CBN Governor.
