The Senato representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye has reacted to the directives given by the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force on the immediate withdrawal of policemen attached to ‘VIPs’ and companies in the country, as a ploy to get him killed. The Senator who have been on a loggerhead with the police and his Stage Governor, over his allegation that the chief of staff to the Kogi State Government Mr Onoja planned his failed assassination attempt, an allegation which the police force further refuted saying the allegations were false, as it was the Senator who rather staged his own assassination and not the Kogi State Governor like he alleged.
Senator Dino Melaye has been in a political battle with the State Governor, Yahaya Bello, after he alleged that he Governor planned his Re-call by his constituency, and later said the Governor did a double voters registration at his residence and another at his office. The story which seems to have died down, came up again, as the National Assembly moved a motion to investigate the allegation of the governor on double voters registration, and as that was still on-going, the Senator made another allegation where he accused the Governor of importing army uniforms and ammunition with bulletproof vests in preparation for the upcoming general elections. Once again, as that was ongoing, the Appeal Court looking into the case of the recalling of the Senator, gave a judgement to Independent National Electoral Commission to go ahead with the process of recalling the senator, to which the counsel to the senatro said they will take the matter to the Apex Court for further clarifications.
Before we could digest that, and all other allegations and counter allegations both from Senator Dino Melaye and the Kogi State Government with the Nigerian Police Force, Senator Dino hit the Police with another allegation of a ploy to get him killed by calling for the withdrawal of his security details. In a series of tweets, the Senator expressed fear and threats towards his life by the Nigerian Police, which he expressed in the following tweets:
Withdrawal of police from VIP I am the target. IG want to expose me so I can be killed. Having survived Assassination attempt twice I deserve police protection in a country where I’m a tax payer.
No amount of lies and blackmail will detract my attention from speaking the truth and defending it.
Fabricated lies by Kogi State Govt and the police will fail. It’s utterly laughable and preposterous. It’s a sign of desperation.
