PHOTO:Senator Saraki Pays Tribute To Late Music Legend, Hugh Masekele

Nigerian Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki has paid his tribute to late South African jazz legend, late Hugh Masekele. The late music legend who died yesterday at the age of 78, after battling with cancer for years. Before his death, he was one musician that touched the lives of families with his music, and he was able to relate with both old and young.

The Jazz legend was pronounced dead early Tuesday morning, and since his death was announced by his family, tributes from far and near have been pouring in. The Nigerian Senate President, Bukola Saraki will be the latest to send in his condolence. On his page earlier today, he wrote:

Hugh Masekela was a statesman of African music. With his passing at the age of 78, the world has lost a boundless creative spirit — one who made immense contributions to the body of African arts, especially music.

His music was part of the soundtrack of the anti-Apartheid struggle. With his trumpet and voice, Masekela gave expression to life under the Apartheid regime and heralded the release of Nelson Mandela and majority rule.

He paid dearly for this activism, spending more than three decades of his life in exile. Yet he never stopped playing, and he never stopped smiling.
