The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki has warned that the Senate mean business as they prepare to deliberate on the passage of Petroleum Industry fiscal and host community bills.

While receiving the International Oil Companies and Oil Producers Trade Sector in his office, he warned that nobody should give bribe and any lawmaker that asked for bribe or favours should be reported immediately.

He said the Senate would deal decisively with such lawmaker, as the 8th Senate are looking to do the right thing for Nigeria and Nigerians as to the passage of this important bill.

The Senate President who put up some photos of the meetings on his social media page, had this to say on the passage of the Petroleum Industry Fiscal and Host Community Bills. He said:

This evening, I met with a delegation of International Oil Companies (IOCs) and the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS), led by the Managing Director of Shell Petroleum and Chairman of the OPTS, Mr. Osagie Okunbor.

At the meeting, I emphasized that IOCs must not attempt to induce lawmakers during the consideration of the Petroleum Industry Fiscal and Host Communities Bills — which are currently before the 8th National Assembly.

On our part, the the leadership has made it clear to all the members involved that this must be a transparent process. We are doing this in the interest of the country. Therefore, we are not going to tolerate any hanky-panky. No favours. No gifts. Nothing must be given to get this work done.

We must ensure that everything is above board because the Host Community Bill and the Fiscal Responsibility Bills are laws that will impact the lives of many generations of Nigerians.

Therefore, we must make sure that in our time it is done properly.
