President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has returned from China, a few hours ago, as the President of the Southern African country seems to be the first African President to have returned early from China, after the China-African summit in Beijing China.

President Emmerson who was part of the African Leaders who attended the just concluded Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) a few hours ago, announced his return to the country, after three-days of both general and private discussions with Chinese businessmen and women, and President Xi of China on how to bring about developmental projects to Zimbabwe.

President Emmerson is attending the summit for the first time, since taking over as President of Zimbabwe, and after a controversial Presidential election that was marred by deadly violence with thousands injured and many reportedly killed as Government troops allegedly fired into protesters.

Despite the deadly violence in the country’s capital and protest by the opposition, President Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared the winner of the election, with just 50.8% of the votes to 44.3% of the opposition party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), as announced by the country’s electoral commission. His political party ZANU-PF also won a majority in the parliament.

President Emmerson took over the office of the President after long-time Dictator Robert Mugabe was forced out of office by the military, after 37-years. He then contested election which he won to become the new president of Zimbabwe after 37-years of Mugabe’s rule.

Since taking over office last month August 2018, President Emmerson has set up a committee to reconcile aggrieved members and stakeholders in order to make peace and start building the country.
While announcing his return to the country on his social media page, he said:

“This morning I returned from a busy & highly productive visit to China. Whilst I was away, our National Assembly members and Senators were sworn in. I congratulate them all & look forward to working together to realise our nation’s potential in the spirit of servant leadership!”
