Super Eagles of Nigeria Break Squirrels' 8-Years Unbeaten Record

The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday, qualified for the 2021 CAF Nations Cup games in Cameroun, after beating Squirrels of Benin 0-1 away.

The win by Super Eagles of Nigeria away in the Benin Republic, makes them the first team to defeat the Squirrels at their home ground, for the first time in eight years.

Paul Onuachu’s goal in the 93rd minutes of the game, gave the Super Eagles of Nigeria all three points to remain top of the group, and unbeaten so far in the qualifiers.

The goalscorer, and Genk forward, Paul Onuachu who has been in top form for his Belgian club, said the fans clamour for his inclusion pushed him to do more in an Eagles shirt.

“Thank you to the nation, they pushed me to show what I have in the national team,” he acknowledged.

“I did it and I am so happy for the team and the country.
“It’s great for a striker to score.”

The Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr started with a 4-2-3-1 line-up, with
Maduka Okoye – Zaidu Sanusi, Ola Aina, Leon Balogun, William Ekong (Captain) – Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo – Henry Onyekuru, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Iheanacho – Victor Osimhen.

Before the game, Nigeria already qualified for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after Sierra Leone played a goalless draw with Lesotho earlier on Saturday.
Lesotho hosted Sierra Leone in the earlier fixture at the Setsoto Stadium in Maseru, drawing 0-0.
