Drake has issued an ultimatum to Minnesota prosecutors that the charges brought against all four officers, who contributed to George Floyd’s death, better reflect the outrage and cries of the people.
Drake who was reacting to the three other police officers being charged, took to his Instagram to give the ultimatum.
The Minnesota Attorney General announced Wednesday, charges will be brought against the other officers and the murder charge against the officer who kneeled on Floyd’s neck would be upgraded.
“The decision on the other officers will be announced this afternoon and it BETTER reflect the cries and outrage of the people,” Drake posted.
He continued, “This is an opportunity for those in power who are used to protecting each other to show the nation they are being heard… a pivotal moment in history is upon us and I am praying for harsh JUSTICE..can’t say I’m not nervous though.”
It’s unclear if the rapper had seen recent reports before publishing his statement, but it appears prosecutors are doing exactly what he is asking for in this case.
According to Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, the police officer who was charged with 3rd-degree murder will now have his charge upgraded to 2nd-degree murder.
The Attorney General of Minnesota is expected to make the announcement this afternoon.
It is being reported, the remaining three officers in the murder of George Floyd (Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng) will be arrested and charged with crimes in connections with his death. Specifically, they will face ‘aiding and abetting’ charges.
According to attorney Ben Crump, George Floyd’s family was was informed by authorities the three other officers would be charged with crimes associated with his death.
In an interview with ‘TODAY,’ Crump said, “We heard that they expect to charge those officers.”
As for the officer who kneeled on Floyd’s neck, the upgrade is important considering the maximum sentence that can be issued if convicted of the crime. In the case of his current charge, second-degree murder, the maximum sentence is 25 years in prison.
