Queen Elizabeth II is to miss the United Nations climate summit in Glasgow next week after it was revealed late on Tuesday, she was advised to rest by doctors after spending a night in the hospital last week.

The United Nations climate summit which will be kicking off on November 1st, would Queen Elizabeth II make a virtual appearance instead.

The 95-year-old sovereign appeared at midday all smiles, in a yellow dress, for a virtual audience with two new ambassadors to the United Kingdom on Tuesday from Windsor Castle, west London. But Buckingham Palace which had previously said she still hoped to attend the crucial meeting despite the health concerns but it has now been decided she won’t be able to go.

“Following a notice advising her to rest, the Queen is performing light duties at Windsor Castle. Her Majesty has reluctantly decided not to travel to Glasgow to attend the COP26 reception on Monday 1 November “Buckingham Palace announced in a statement.

“Her Majesty is disappointed not to be able to attend the reception, but she will address the assembled delegates through a recorded video message,” added the same source.

Queen Elizabeth II Hospitalization:

This trip to the UN climate conference was eagerly awaited, as the royal family has been committed to environmental issues in recent weeks.

Queen Elizabeth II herself had come out of her usual reserve in mid-October by expressing her irritation at world leaders who “talk” about climate change but “don’t act” in a private conversation captured on the sidelines of a speech.

The virtual audiences granted Tuesday to ambassadors of South Korea, Gunn Kim, and Switzerland, Markus Leitner, to receive their credentials, were his first public appearance since October 19.

She had cancelled a visit to Northern Ireland the next day after her doctors had recommended that she rest.

The queen then spent the night from Wednesday to Thursday at the hospital, officially after having undergone “preliminary” examinations.

The fact that Buckingham only belatedly revealed this hospitalization, his first since 2013, had raised questions and criticism about the lack of transparency on the part of the palace.
