Ramadan: Kano State Government Relaxes COVID-19 Lockdown

Kano State Government has on Wednesday 22nd April 2020, announced that they have relaxed the COVID-19 lockdown order for one day, which is from 6 am – 12 midnight tomorrow, Thursday 23rd April 2020.

The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, made the announced that the government will be lifting the COVID-19 lockdown order for Ramadan, during at a media briefing of the committee.

Gawuna, who is also the Chairman, State Taskforce Committee on COVID-19, said the relaxation of the COVID-19 lockdown is to enable the people to prepare for Ramadan.

Meanwhile, the government earlier today, announced that it has lifted the suspension of operations at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC ) COVID-19 test laboratory centre at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), in Kano, after suspending operations.

In a statement released by Solacebase earlier on Wednesday 22nd April 2020, the closure of the Center was due to shortage of reagents as confirmed by Director, Centre for Infectious Diseases Research, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Prof. Isa Abubakar.

Prof. Isa Abubakar who is also the Spokesman of AKTH informed Solacebase a while ago that they just received reagents from Abuja and the centre is being fumigated and ready for operations immediately. The fumigation of such centre takes 48 hours.

The report added that the shortage was observed on Tuesday when the Centre tested 44 persons and the reagents were only enough for 40 as the results for the other four was invalid due to shortage of the reagents ‘’Right now as I speak to you, the 4 others that the results were invalid yesterday have been sent to Abuja to complete the test and get results,” said the Centre Director.
