Presidency Begs South-South Governors Over Cancelled Meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari will by 7 pm today, Sunday 29th March 2020, address Nigerians about the coronavirus pandemic.

The decision by President Buhari to address Nigerians is coming after much criticism (mostly online) from Nigerians and non-Nigerians, on how the Presidency has failed to address the nation, just like other world leaders have been doing in their respective countries, as the coronavirus continues to spread across the federation.

The news of the scheduled presidential nationwide address by 7 pm today, was released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina. He disclosed this in a statement a few hours ago, as Nigerians who have been urged to stay at home without any palliative measures wait patiently to hear what the President will have to say on the COVID-19 pandemic, for which Nigeria has recorded 97 confirmed cases so far.

Adesina said: “President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation Sunday, March 29, 2020, at 7 pm.

“Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast.”

So far, and according to the update by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Nigeria now has 97 cases from the coronavirus pandemic.

This figure was confirmed on Saturday night, when 8 more cases of the coronavirus were recorded in Nigeria.

The new cases are 2 in the FCT, 4 in Oyo, 1 in Kaduna and 1 in Osun State.
The Kaduna case is believed to be the state governor who announced that he tested positive for the virus.

One death has been recorded since the outbreak of the virus in the country, with 3 discharged.

A breakdown of cases by states in real-time is found on the NCDC microsite, coordinating organisation for all coronavirus infections.
Currently; Lagos- 59 FCT- 16 Ogun- 3 Enugu- 2 Ekiti- 1 Oyo- 7 Edo- 2 Bauchi- 2 Osun-2 Rivers-1 Benue- 1 and Kaduna- 1
