Peter Obi is being rumoured to have been picked by Chief Atiku Abubakar as his running mate for the 2019 Presidential elections.
Although neither the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nor Atiku Abubakar has confirmed this, the news reaching us suggest that both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are currently in a closed-door meeting, discussing on a possible way forward after Chief Obasanjo’s endorsement.
Atiku Abubakar won the PDP Presidential primary in Rivers State, and since his emergence as the flagbearer for the 2019 Presidential election, there have been speculations as to who is likely to be his running mate, but unconfirmed report said he is picking Peter Obi as his running mate, and not former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel.
Peter Obi served as the Governor of Anambra State for eight years, before decamping from APGA to the PDP, and since his decamping, he has failed to win an election.
For me personally, picking Peter Obi as a running mate will not be a wise decision, given that President Buhari already has a Vice President from the South West, and since the votes from the South-South and South East are likely to go to the PDP, it will be more sensible to stick with a South West running mate and divide the votes for Professor Osinbajo.
A running mate like Mr. Ayodele Fayose would have been good, but I am sensing that the PDP giving that he is likely to be arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after he leaves office as a Governor, PDP I feel do not want to risk it, and would rather settle for candidate they feel commands some amount of respect and followers from the Nigerian youths and elites.
It is definitely going to be an interesting 2019…but why do i feel PDP are only picking Peter Obi because they feel he can win a debate for them…lol
