Seun Kuti: Police Calls Man In ViralSocial Media Video To Come Forward As Eyewitness

The Lagos State Police Command is calling on man who had claimed that he witnessed the incident between Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti and a Police officer on duty at the third mainland bridge, that has led to the arrest and assault charge of the singer, to come forward as an eyewitness.

The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated this in a statement released on Tuesday 16th May 2023, on his official social media handle.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin who reshared the viral video of the man confessing to having been present and vowed to come forward if called upon to stand as an eyewitness to the incident involving Seun Kuti and the Police officer, stated that the Nigerian Police Force are ready to provide witness protection to the man.

If you are the man in this video or you know him or any other witness of the assault referenced in the video, kindly send me a DM. Witness protection is guaranteed. We do appreciate your civic-mindedness,” SP Benjamin Hundeyin, tweeted on Tuesday.

Seun Kuti who has since been arrested for assaulting a Police Officer on duty, had claimed that he slapped the yet-to-be-identified police officer, in a recent viral video because the officer attempted to kill him and his family members. He said this before his arrest via his social media handle on Saturday.

He further said the policeman has apologized and he has forgiven him.
Seun Kuti also warned those saying he was chasing clout to mind their business and not let the police officer lose his job.

Kuti wrote, “He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof but I no dey chase clout. He has apologised and I have agreed not to press charges.

“Make una mind una business make the poor guy no lose him job,” he said.

The singer has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer, according to authorities.

He turned himself in early on Monday at the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command, accompanied by a lawyer and a family representative, police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said on Twitter.

“He has been placed under arrest in line with the law,” he said.
“The ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.”

The police said acts of contempt and disdain “for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book”.

The 40-year-old is the youngest son of Fela Kuti, the legend behind Afrobeat.
