Former Majority Leader of Taraba State House of Assembly, Honourable Joseph Kunini has been elected as the new speaker of the State House of Assembly, a day after the resignation of former Speaker, Hon. Abel Diah, who resigned his position on Sunday evening.
Hon Joseph Kunini who is representing the people of Lau constituency in the Assembly, was on Monday 2nd December 2019 elected as the new Speaker, while Abdullahi Hamman Adama, from Bali II constituency, emerged the new deputy Speaker, and Rtd Capt. Douglas Ndatse the Majority Leader.
The emergence of Hon Joseph Kunini and others came after the resignation of the former Speaker, Peter Abel Diah and his deputy, Charles Maijankai, on Sunday 1 December 2019.
Their resignation letters were read by the Clerk of the House, Orngu Mela, at a plenary Monday morning.
The former Speaker threw in the towel after a 2/3 majority of the 24-member House had concluded arrangements to impeach him today.
At the plenary of the House on Monday, the House also received Executive Communication from Governor, Darius Ishaku containing names of commissioner nominees for screening by the House.
Reading the communication, the new Speaker, fixed Tuesday, December 3rd for the commencement of screening of the 21 Commissioner nominees.
