Tony Blackburn has been forced to pull out of his radio show to ‘recover properly’ from an illness.

Tony Blackburn, 80, was replaced by stand-in Johnnie Walker on Saturday morning’s BBC Radio 2 programme.

On Twitter, the former I’m A Celebrity star revealed he’d been advised by doctors to rest after suffering from a chest infection.

The broadcaster has also postponed his Sounds of the 60s shows at Wyvern Theatre in Swindon and Harlequin Theatre in Redhill next week on Wednesday and Thursday.

Tony wrote: ‘Hello folks. Just to let you all know, I’ve had a little recurrence of the chest infection I had a few weeks ago.

‘My Dr has told me off for not taking some time to recover properly so I am having a break from the radio this weekend and, sadly, I have had to postpone the Sounds of the 60s shows at Swindon and Redhill next week too.

‘To those of you who have booked to see the show next week I’m so sorry but we are arranging new dates and your tickets will be OK xx.’
Tony was recently praised for taking aim at President Vladimir Putin on his Golden Hour show on Sunday night by letting the music do the talking.

Speaking to listeners as the song started, he said: ‘Wouldn’t it be lovely if Putin would say this?’

The lyrics, sung by Moloko’s Róisín Murphy, then sounded: ‘If you are ready, I will surrender, take me and do as you will.
