Police say a second victim of Saugus High school, Santa Clarita in the Los Angeles area shooting has died, bringing the total number of recorded death to two. The authorities also confirmed that the shooter has been arrested with a gunshot wound he inflicted on himself.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva who confirmed the incident had said that a 14-year-old boy died at a hospital, while another 16-year-old girl died from the shooting at Saugus High School in the city of Santa Clarita.
The investigation is still ongoing, as we have earlier reported, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies who had responded to a torrent of 911 calls found all six students in a quad area. Police had a few hours ago, reported on Twitter that a student gunman shot five students and then himself around 7:30 a.m. in a school quad. His .45-caliber handgun was found with no bullets remaining when it was recovered.
The three surviving victims remain hospitalized. The shooter is in grave condition, after shooting himself in the head, Police say.
According to the report by Associated Press, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the shooter was a student at the school but did not identify him. A search warrant was being obtained for his home.
“At this point in time, we have no indication of motivation or ideology,” said Paul Delacourt, the agent in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office. Santa Clarita is a city of more than 200,000 about 30 miles (48 kilometres) northwest of downtown LA.
