Nearly twenty fires broke out this Saturday in Morbihan, which is the northwest area of France, AFP reports.
According to the report, the wildfire in Morbihan are concentrated in four areas and “the simultaneity of the fires is worrying” according to the firefighters.
The south of Brittany is heating up and many fires broke out this Saturday. The prefecture of Morbihan lists around twenty fires in natural areas. 430 firefighters are mobilized with 120 machines to overcome these flames. More than 75 hectares burned this Saturday, most of the fires are now under control, AFP reported.
Four different areas are affected in the department, “no large areas affected but the simultaneity of the fires is worrying”, notes the spokesperson for the firefighters, Eric Brocardi with BFMTV. The firefighters specify that no injuries are to be deplored for the moment and that no house is affected. The prefecture of Morbihan underlines this Saturday evening that two fires are still not fixed: at Erdeven and at Locoal Mendon.
Calls for help to collect water
The flames extend mainly to Saint-Philibert, Questembert and Erdeven where several dozen hectares are in flames.
Guest of BFMTV this Saturday evening, the mayor of Saint-Philibert, François Le Cotillec says: “at 10 p.m., the two fires started this afternoon are fixed. But we fear a recovery with the wind coming from the North. (… ) Four and a half hectares are burned, which is catastrophic for a tourist sector like Saint-Philibert”.
The city councilor also specifies that an investigation will be opened “soon”.
The town of Locoal-Mendon is also affected by the flames and homes and campsites are threatened. According to Telegram , several residents of the fire area were evacuated. In Erdeven, 300 people were taken care of according to the prefecture.
The town hall of Locoal-Mendon calls on its inhabitants on social networks to activate its water reserves due to the drought .
“We need tons of water or any other transportable water supply that can help fight the ongoing fire,” the town hall wrote on Facebook.
Many holidaymakers share on social networks images of impressive smoke around beaches such as La Trinité-sur-Mer.
