Marseille knife attacker has been killed by French Police, after he threatened them with a knife at a store at the 11th arrondissement of the city. Two investigations have been opened, including one at the IGPN, AFP reports.

According to the report by BFM which was quoting a Police source, stated that the Marseille knife attacker was armed with a kitchen knife and although investigations are still on, the incident happened on Wednesday at the 11th arrondissement of Marseille, near the Cultura de la Valentine store.

Aged about fifty, the man was threatening the Police when they wanted to control him in the shopping centre. He rushed towards them with his knife. After a warning, the police used their weapon and touched the individual, a police source told BFM.

The emergency services carried out a cardiac massage but the man died. It is currently being identified.

Psychological aid device

Four fire engines and a dozen police cars went to the scene. Employees of the Cultura store were held in a security perimeter for the purposes of the investigation. A psychological aid device was activated for the witnesses present.

On Twitter, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin thanked the “brave police officers who neutralized a threatening individual, armed with a knife, in a commercial area in Marseille”. He said no other injuries were reported.

Open investigations

An investigation into the counts of attempted homicide on a person holding public authority has been opened by the prosecution of the Marseille judicial court and entrusted to the judicial police, the Marseille prosecution told BFMTV.

A second investigation for intentional homicide has been opened with the IGPN to determine the conditions of the shootings
