La France Insoumise which is one of the contending political parties in the ongoing Presidential election in France, is looking to take over the majority seats at the Assembly after winning nearly 22% of the vote on Sunday, AFP reports.

According to the report, La France Insoumise is counting on the legislative elections to impose a majority on Emmanuel Macron in the Assembly in the event of re-election.

The number two of La France Insoumise (LFI) Adrien Quatennens said on Monday that he wanted to “impose cohabitation” on Emmanuel Macron during the legislative elections scheduled for June, believing that it was up to the outgoing president to “take his responsibilities” to beat Marine Le Pen in the second round of the presidential election.

“When we see the configuration of yesterday, it will be a question of the legislative elections to do what is necessary because Emmanuel Macron may not have a majority in the Assembly”, he said on France Inter, in allusion to the result of its candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the first round who obtained nearly 22% of the votes.

“It may be a question of imposing cohabitation on him,” added the deputy from the North. “If all of those who voted Mélenchon yesterday renew their vote in the legislative elections, we are able to impose another majority on him,” he assured.

Asked about the second round on April 24, Quatennens reiterated that “the far-right vote is in no way an option” and that “the people have nothing to gain from a victory for Marine Le Pen”.

Fabien Roussel’s voices “undeniably missed”

“For the rest the total responsibility for what will happen in the second round lies with the main protagonist, Emmanuel Macron”, underlined the deputy, who attributed to the outgoing president the “responsibility for the level in which the far right finds itself today. ‘today’.

Adrien Quatennens also admitted that he had missed the LFI candidate the votes of the communist Fabien Roussel to pass in the second round in place of the RN candidate Marine Le Pen.

“When you see that this morning Jean-Luc Mélenchon finishes at 22% and that Marine Le Pen is one point ahead of us, and that Fabien Roussel has 2.5 points, yes, we have undoubtedly missed his votes”, he said. he says, recalling that the PCF had supported LFI in 2017 and 2012.
