Anonymous Declares Cyber War On Russia

Anonymous have declared cyber war on the Russian government over the invasion of Ukraine.

According to the report by AFP, in the midst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the cyber war is growing. On February 24, the famous hacker collective Anonymous announced its support for the country targeted by Vladimir Putin’s army, and its decision to enter into “cyber war” against the Russian government. The announcement was made on Twitter, by one of the most followed accounts of the collective.

The same Twitter account claimed responsibility for the cyberattack targeting RT, a Russian state-funded channel available in several languages, including French, and which Senator Laurent Lafon wants to ban in France, AFP reports.

The chairman of the Senate’s Culture Committee notably qualifies RT France as an “official body in France for the propaganda of the Russian regime”.

At the same time, the official account of RT announced that it had been the victim of a denial of service attack , which consists of the attackers flooding the targeted servers with connections to put them out of service.

Its website was briefly rendered inaccessible, as the Anonymous account behind the declaration of “cyberwarfare” targeting Russia later reported.

In the past, the Anonymous collective has distinguished itself by its fight against the Islamic State or its positions against Donald Trump, but also in activism hostile to the police.

Over the past few hours, the digital war has intensified alongside Russia’s militarily waged war. Ukraine has been the victim of multiple cyberattacks , through denial of service, but also through malware capable of deleting data from strategic servers.

This fight could intensify in the coming days, as the Americans too consider integrating this cyberwar to help Ukraine defend itself. Among the targets of such a conflict are military institutions but also strategic infrastructures for the production of energy or telecommunications.
