Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor has urged all supporters of the self-proclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) across the country, especially those living in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja to be in court on Monday, for his trial.
Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer who in a social media post on Sunday 25th July 2021, told IPOB members and supports to expect legal fireworks in court tomorrow, also urged them to by all means necessary to exercise restraint and civility in all quarters tomorrow. He said it is the constitutional right of everyone who is interested to be in court to witness the Court’s proceedings “but your engagement, dressing and conducts should be civil,” he said.
Taking to his social media handle, he said: “As we prepare for legal fireworks in court tomorrow, I wish to extend my best compliments to our teeming supporters who will endeavour to witness the commencement of the Hearing on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case tomorrow.
I further wish to urge restraint and civility in all quarters tomorrow. It is your constitutional rights to be in court to witness Court’s proceedings but your engagement, dressing and conducts should be civil,” he said.
He continued by adding that:
“The World is here already and they will be watching. All notable World-class media houses are here already.
I also wish to remind the security agents that the Court’s environment is a public place, accessible to everybody, and not a battleground, they should be civil in their engagement, as no violence is envisaged and none will happen.
What we Demand for is justice and fair hearing.

The statement by Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer is coming a few hours after the Federal Government through the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, in a statement, warned members of IPOB to stay away from the court sitting. But however, pointed out that Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers would be allowed around the court premises on the trial day. It was added that branded IPOB T-shirts or caps would not be allowed.
Already, there are reports of heavy security presence in and around Abuja ahead of the trial tomorrow, Monday 26th July 2021.
Areas such as the Central Business District and Maitama have witnessed a heavy security presence since on Sunday.
Kanu, who was reportedly re-arrested on June 29 in Kenya, was also arraigned at the Federal High Court Abuja the same day.
He was ordered to be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Security, DSS, while the case was adjourned till July 26.
Kanu faces an 11-count charge of treason, treasonable felony, terrorism and illegal possession of firearms, but Sunday Vanguard learned that fresh charges may be filed against him when the trial resumes.
