Funeral Workers Fired For Posing With Diego Maradona’s Body 

Two funeral workers have been sacked, after photos surfaced on social media showing them taking selfies with Diego Maradona’s body inside a coffin.

The funeral workers who were tasked with preparing Diego Maradona‘s body for the soccer legend’s wake, ended up turning the process into a selfie session.  

According to the report by Mirror Sport, which first reported the story, stated that the two images, which have gone viral across social media networks in Argentina, show one worker who has been identified as Diego Molina giving a thumbs-up whilst resting his other hand on Maradona’s head. The second photo shows two men standing next to the coffin with Maradona’s face clearly visible. The younger of the two men was also giving a thumbs-up pose.

The report also stated that the manager of the Sepelios Pinier funeral parlour in Buenos Aires, Diego Picon, claims that the three men were ‘outsourced employees’ and took the pictures before Maradona’s body was transported to Argentina’s presidential palace Casa Rosada.

‘My father is 75 years old and he is crying, I am crying, my brother too, we are destroyed,’ Picon told TN. ‘He [Molina] is not an employee here, he is a third party who only helped us load the coffin because it weighs a lot. The family chose a cedar [wood] box that is very difficult to transport and that is why we summoned him, just to carry the box.

‘The three outsourced employees that we called and appear in the images, we took away their mobile phones in the morgue. ‘We gave them back when all the work had been finished and at that moment, which was when the police called me to organise the transfer, that’s when they did it.’

Maradona’s lawyer, Matias Morla, directly identified Molina on his Twitter account and has vowed to take legal action. ‘To protect the memory of my friend I won’t rest until he pays for such an atrocity,’ Morla wrote. 

Diego Maradona was laid to rest on Thursday as mourners paid their respects around the world with touching tributes. There was also the report of clashes with fans and the Police on Thursday in his native country, where violence erupted as thousands of mourners tried to force their way into the presidential palace
