The First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari has condemned the abduction of a senior Register in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Dr Vivien Otu on Friday by gunmen.

In a statement by the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, Mrs Buhari described the act as an abominable one which has threatened to disrupt the already fragile health system in the country.

According to the statement, Nigerian women stand in solidarity with her family, friends and well-wishers and call on the abductors to unconditionally release Dr Vivien Otu.

The statement further revealed that the office of the First Lady and the ministry of women affairs are in touch with the Inspector General of police, the Commissioner of police in the state and other security agencies who have been working tirelessly to immediately secure the release of Dr Vivien Otu.

It appeals to the public to remain calm and assist by giving useful information that will help track her whereabouts.

Dr. Vivien Otu was said to have gone to eat in a food joint called “Belash” along Marian Road, when she was abducted.

“After eating, she was about to enter her car when gunmen drove into the compound of “Belash”, shot many rounds in the air, carried her into their car and zoomed off,” a source disclosed.
